General Comments
A DVD player for around £140 isn't unusual these days, but one that plays all regions straight out the box without having to do a Vulcan neck pinch on the remote buttons while opening the tray and praying to Buddha? Not so usual.
Although the number of bad points seems a bit high, they're trivial compared to the machine overall. Yes, it's a yucky 70s silver finish, but it plays all regions. Yes, there's no power switch on the remote, but it plays all regions (I think you see where I'm going here...)
Available at Argos, I've seen it down to £130. The DVD magazines seem to like it too. I've had it for nearly a year and feel no inclination to get another one. Until the new "region-free player killer" DVDs become the norm, perhaps.

Since I reviewed this, Alba have changed the model and I have no idea if the new one is region free. Note the new model is £100 from Argos at the time of writing (Aug 27 2001)

I'd like to say thanks to this web page for existing. My amazing girlfriend just bought me the ALba DVD103 out of a catalogue knowing I'd wanted a DVD player for ages. I worried that as I wasn't there to choose my DVD player that it would not be multi region. I thought I'd cut my losses and just be grateful for a DVD player, the chances being high that it was single regional. But thanks to this page I have found that I have a multi region DVD ontop of how good I already thought it was. I'm so happy. I love my girlfriend.
