I made a mistake in setting up auto pay for my MBNA credit card, and instead of paying twice per month, I was paying once every two months. My error caused me to be unable to make the minimum payment, which of course increased over the two months that my error was in place. I contacted them and spoke to a representative who agreed to cut my 29% rate in half if I made a $9000 payment (on a $22,000 debt) after I refinanced my home. I made the payment, and called for the lower rate. They claimed that I needed to wait for the credit bureau to update on the first of the month. So I waited for the call back, which never came. I called 15 days later and was told that my history of delinquency, which I explained was my fault, means they can do no better than 29%. I'm at the absolute lowest rate possible. I have had an increase in income of $20,000 in the last year, but they didn't take that into consideration at all, and they absolutely refused to help. When I insisted they were not honoring their promise, they in turn decided that my credit limit was also too high, so they reduced it to what my current balance is! Talk about kicking you when you're down! I am livid, and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it. Get EVERYTHING in writing.
