May be OK if you can get one.


Bad Points

No customer service. Outsourced to Philippines.


General Comments

Even if they reject your purchase, because your phone number entered doesn't match your credit card records or some other reason, American Express place a hold on your Travellers Cheque card. You cannot get them to cancel the hold. They will not stop a purchase on a debit card. They will not resolve your problems on the phone. They will not sell you a card in person at an office. The fact that AmEx won't let you purchase them over the phone tells you that they really aren't putting any effort into providing customer service.

    Hello. I speak to the American Express UK Customer Service call centre frequently... they're in Brighton, UK.

    They don't sell the card at their Amex offices, but they do have partnerships with high street travel agents; that's where I got my second card. I got my first card over the phone.
