Sony has for me been a name that I could trust. I have given Sony my business for years but to be honest my previous Sony TV died just after the warranty expired and I chalked it up to an exception and purchased the Sony KP-51HW40. It had the wide screen format coupled with a home theatre sound system provided a enjoyable alternative to going to the cinema. After 3 years red horizontal lines appeared and the TV started to auto shut off. The technician advised that the red crt needed to be replaced at a cost of approximately $400.00 cdn. It was also advised that Sony recommended that all three crt's be replaced at the same time. The technician suggested that purchasing a new TV would be money better spent. I have since discovered that this apparently is/was a common problem with this Sony model.
