Easy to use
Layman's Terms
Lets people think they understand accounting
No good for accountants
Terrible networking - beware of the 5 user systems etc. They really struggle with their networking capabilities.
I have used Quickbooks accounting software for over 5 years, alongside Sage/Access and many others. QB is great for a one man band, or very small business who don't employ accounts staff, and I often advise people to use it, but beware - the software is easy to use for a reason...
If you actually moved over to a real accounts system it would confuse the hell out of you. Most of the terminology used is American, and as long as you have no aspirations of growing in size or becoming a bookkeeper, you will be absolutely fine. Another small point if you are going to buy a 5 user licence... Quick Books are not for the bigger small business (you will have consistent networking problems). If you do a lot of transactions it will keep corrupting the file when your company gets too big, and it gets confused on discounts and keeps crashing. There are a few quirks, and if you phone QB up for some help they want your credit card number before they even know whether they can help you or not. And I have yet to find an accountant that doesn't despair when trying to print sensible reports from it. But in monetary start-up terms, it has more features, and it is better value for the basic package than SAGE.
