Good Points

The 2.4 LCD screen is HUGE, especially for the price. 5.1 MP is also excellent for the price. This camera is small but the grip is handy and has a nice weight to it, not light and flimsy like other compact models.

The options are nice, black and white, sepia, different settings etc.

The built in memory holds about 16 pictures at 5 MP at fine resolution.

Overall this is a great camera for the price.


Bad Points

Battery life so far seems short. I bought the camera last night and have taken about 20 pictures and the battery is 1/3 used. Not the cameras fault though, I'm going to try the rechargeable batteries and this should hopefully do the trick.


General Comments

For the price this Samsung Digimax S500 is an excellent buy. Many other brands I looked at had the same specs or even smaller LCD screens and were at least $100 more. Great first camera, or even if you are already an experienced photographer, this is perfect for everyday use.

    Battery life with Alkalines is pathetic - as few as 15 shots with full flash and red-eye reduction but over 200 flash/red-eye shots on a pair of freshly charged NiMH AA cells seems very reasonable to me.
    Performance in all other respects is reported elsewhere.
    Ken
