Good Points

Compact design.
Very powerful.
Excellent customer support.

Bad Points

Would have liked a longer hose.
A bit noisy, but not excessive.
Minor point: I would have preferred condensate to drain into a removable. container, rather than having to manually drain a hose into a collection tray.

General Comments

I ordered the Amcor AMC1200M air conditioning system prior to the July 2006 heatwave, and how I regret not receiving it in time for it to prevent me developing heat stroke in a room where the temperature soared to +38 degrees.

It has to be said that the machine is a marvel! I have been using it in a South facing room with a 6' x 3' UPVC double-glazed window facing onto mirror-fronted wardrobes; ie. a definite challenge for any machine when the outdoor temperature exceeds 34 degrees, but this machine coped splendidly.

It takes about 30 minutes to reduce the temperature to about a much more comfortable 25 degrees, and then I switch it to the low setting and the air is cool, fresh and very pleasant, and I certainly noticed the difference when I ventured out.

I've since applied thermal film to the window and fitted a blind to prevent the bedroom feeling too much like a greenhouse, and in combination with the Amcor machine, it's almost like visiting the freezer sections of our local supermarket.

I've also contacted Amcor's Customer Service, and what a pleasure it was to deal with Amcor's staff. Firstly, their telephone number is stated clearly as a contact point. It is not a premium rate number, AND they answer the phone without using an automated service. They really could not be more helpful, and I've been so impressed by both the product and company itself that I've already ordered a second machine, and a further AMC15000 split unit system should be arriving tomorrow, which I plan to review once it's been in use for a month.

Buy with confidence - you won't be disappointed.

    AMC15000 Split Unit air conditioner

I couldn't find how to add a new category for this second air conditioning unit mentioned in my review of the AMC12000M but having now tested it thoroughly wanted to add an update.

The 12000 model is a brilliant machine but I've been blown away (almost literally!) by the performance of the AMC15000 model. This is a split unit model costing about £550 but is a worthwhile investment. It is extremely powerful, cooling a large room within less than 20 minutes and it offers that refrigerated feeling you experience when entering large air conditioned stores.

Because it's a split unit, the outdoor unit has to be either fitted outdoors which means drilling a hole of 5 x 2cm in the wall for the connection lead to pass through or, if used in a ground floor room with opening door, the outdoor unit can simply be placed outdoors when required. The indoor unit is identical to the 12000 model (the only visible difference being the lack of exhaust hose) and has castor's so if not connected through a wall then both the indoor and outdoor units can be moved from room to room as required for complete versatility.

It is much quieter than the 12000 all in one unit and much more powerful. Personally I would recommend using the AMC12000M as a mobile unit to move from room to room and using the AMC15000 split unit model as a semi-permanent installation with the outdoor unit fitted outdoors (it can be disconnected and reinstalled if you move house - unlike a fixed installation). Together they are the perfect combination for probably any household.
