Lee2008's Review of Staffordshire Bull Terrier
6th Aug 2006
Overall Rating
- Value for money

Staffordshire Bull Terriers are loyal and caring as companions. No dog on earth desires to please its human owner more than a Staffordshire! The tenacity and courage of the breed are equally matched by its love of humans and its desire to please them. Staffordshire's also recognise the tenderness and frailty of children, which inspires their dedication to and protection of them.
Bad Points
This breed of dog can be rather destructive! My dog has torn apart every bed i have bought him.
General Comments
For all the blood-curdling history of the Staffordshire bull terrier, many astounding positive qualities permeate through every pore of the breed. The Staffordshire bull terrier is defined not only by its indomitable courage and tenacity but also by its unflinching affection for children. At first glance these qualities appear contradictory. How could a formidable, fearless fighter be expected to curl up at the end of a child's bed? Who could expect that a dog bred to kill other dogs would be choice of thousands of dog lovers around the world and be trusted with children? To understand this contradiction you must identify which qualities in the Staffordshire inspired the animal to undertake the battle royal, the fight to the death with a fellow canine. The quality is pure and simple: absolute devotion to mankind.
for his pounds the Staffordshire ranks first amongst the guard dogs, as he is the smallest of the canine defenders. Whilst many of his relatives, the Mastiff and the boxer stand many inches taller, the breed compensates with its solid strength and unshakeable devotion to those it is protecting. A bullet doesn't have to be large to be affective. Keep in mind, however that the Staffordshire is not a true guard dog, unlike the Doberman and Bullmastiff, the breed was designed as a protector.
All Staffordshire's require exercise. They are an above active breed and do not lend themselves well to a sedentary life.

on 28th Jan 2007Hi Lee. I also have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and I personally think it's the best dog I've ever had. Read my pet food review to learn a bit about little Roddy. We have been through some up and downs and we made it together.

Just looked back through for this one after reading your comment on dog food! I think it's a great review Lee. It sums up these dogs lovely! My sons friend has a Staffordshire Bull Terrier - very excitable little chap, so much so, he wees everywhere (the dog, not my sons friend)! Apart from that he's great!
