I had my seven month old car damaged by a car pulling out into the side of it. Despite the other party admitting liability, AXA car insurance tried to get the cheapest possible repair done to my car. After it had been in the bodyshop for 4 weeks, the car was returned to me in a sorry state, with 11 major defects and paintwork that did not match. A further 2 weeks in the bodyshop and the car was returned with dents in the new quarter panel, patchy paintwork all round the car, dirt in the paint, 1 alloy wheel painted over the damage, and 1 alloy wheel still damaged. A senior engineer from AXA came out to look at the car and tried to imply that I had caused damage to the wheel and other parts of the car myself.

Meanwhile, various electrical faults started to manifest themselves which caused the air conditioning to fail and the lights to fuse. The service agent identified that the wiring had been damaged at the rear of the car, presumably when the bumper was removed during the repairs. Other electrical connections were found to have been loosened or tampered with. The car (which cost £21,000) has been significantly devalued as a result of these shoddy repairs, let alone the 8 weeks of the car being in for repair and not usable. I got the impression from the way that the AXA engineer spoke that if I wanted the car repaired properly, I would have to take AXA to court, and since they were experienced with court cases, that they knew what to say to be able to win the case, ie. take us on if you dare!

  Patchypaint.........AXA are the pits. My Aixam car was insured with them for 6 years with no claims whatsoever and apparantly they decided that Aixam cars were too much trouble for them for some reason and they cancelled the insurance.
  
  They didn't inform me -- that was left to my broker P. F. Spare -- who are the tops -- and who telephoned me immediately and put me with another company at a more advantageous price and conditions. Were it not for P. F. Spare being 'on the ball', I would have been driving uninsured!!
  
  In my opinion, AXA are criminal lunatics and totally unfitted to be in the business and it is my fervent hope that something nasty happens to them.

  And I thought my experience was bad enough but your's tops mine.
  
  I don't find it particularly encouraging when a company with a household name stoops ever lower and I feel sorry for the more submissive people that must get shafted by them every day.
  
  Its criminal in some peoples book, but there's obviously no shame in those soft bellied execs at Axa!
