General Comments

I chanced upon Interview With A Vampire one day. Being the person that I am (quite into sci-fi/fantasy) I decided to watch it. Thank God I did.

The story is told in the present day, with Louis (Brad Pitt), a vampire, telling his story to Daniel Malloy (Christian Slater), a young reporter.
Flitting between the past and the present time, the plot unfolds. From Louis meeting Lestat (Tom Cruise), a menacing vampire, to the creation of Claudia (Kirsten Dunst in an early role), to the discovery of other Vampires (including Antonio Banderas).

The different scenes are wonderfully pieced together and each actor acts their socks off. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are two men who I am not overly fond of as actors, but they are convincing as their characters, and they make you feel empathy for these vicious creatures. Kirsten Dunst is inspirational; acting beyond her years in a tough role to fill. Antonio Banderas, when he is on screen, provides a mysticism and intrigue to the vampire world.

Overall, I would urge anyone over the age of 15 to see this film. I am aware that this film is regarded as an 18, but having seen it myself when I was 14, I didn't understand why it was given such a high rating.

Anne Rice should be pleased with this adaptation of her novel. It gives the audience an interesting storyline, and makes it come alive through characters and settings which nobody should miss out on.

Film Reviews - Interview With The Vampire
By no means as"Hollywood" as I would have expected, Neil Jordan's Interview With The Vampire would sit as easily in the local arthouse cinema as the multiplex.
