Ierapetra, Petra Mare Hotel Review

I have just got back from a family holiday at the hotel Petra Mare in Crete and it was great! I would definitely recommend it! The weather was great for the whole two weeks stay, and it was in the mid 30's. We didn't get a single day that was cloudy and raining. The location itself is also really good, and it is ideal for a relaxing holiday.

The hotel is on the sea front, and a 10 minute walk along the beach front leads to a load of shops and restaurants. I would just like to recommend 'On The Rocks', which is an English bar which offers good value food and drink, as well as a huge variety of ice creams and other treats. The service is brilliant, and the staff all speak good English and like to see how your holiday is going. In the evenings when my family and I wanted a break from the hotels entertainment, we sat down in this restaurant, and I couldn't recommend it more! On our last night we went down there and the staff gave us two bottles of wine, and they all said their goodbyes to us.

The hotel is kept very clean, and it is nicely furnished with plenty of space. There never seems to be queuing for the lifts or when helping yourself to the drinks and food. The pools are kept very clean, and the water slides are brilliant. The First Choice team are friendly, and they are always around if you need them. The evening entertainment varies. The children's entertainment is on until 9pm, with a mini disco and games. After this it is a game of cash prize bingo. And adult entertainment begins at about 9:30pm until about 11pm. However, if this is not for you there are also 2 additional bars, one of which has a disco each night, and it is open until the last person leaves!

The customer service is good, and the rooms are cleaned well daily, with a daily towel change and a twice weekly bed change.

The food was also very good, but it did become a bit repetitive. However, there was a huge range of food for everyone, and there is always something you can find to eat. There is a salad bar, and also a wide range of deserts.

There was no entertainment outside of the hotel, but the entertainment offered by First Choice is good; if only if it could go on until midnight!

I would definitely go back to the Petra Mare Hotel in Crete. We really enjoyed ourselves. I would also like to add that it may be good to buy some water shoes which are on sale in the nearby supermarket and in the resorts shop, because going into the sea is a little slippery because of the rocks, and people did sometimes cut themselves. However, this didn't stop us going in the sea every day and having fun!
