Good Points

Weight and balance are very good, due to shorter barrel and improved heavy (blue laminate) stock. very nice stock finishing!
seems at least as accurate as the 77. has better blueing than old 77 versions.
loading port very accessible, also due to higher barrel "shank" (not central in action).

Bad Points

Cocking handle lock housing not blued as nicely as rest of the rifle.
no hex screws. terrible spring twang.
very thin plastic washer on cocking handle to protect tube and barrel on return action. the slot of the trigger set screw still marrs as soon as you point a screw driver at it!

General Comments

Mine is the 97 K "Special" version with nicely coloured laminate stock. this set-up oozes quality, but has some negative points. all of its weight is put into a very stable, compact and yet pointable package. mine is in .177 and is meant for use in informal (Hunter) FT. it makes almost 5 KG's with Busnell Trophy 18x scope.
I would prefer the stock to be just a bit larger in the fore end (sort of "beaver tail" -configuration) and less rounded off underneath.
it would be nice if Weihrauch would decide to fit this special laminate stock version also with an adjustable butt pad and cheek piece, like the HW 98 has, but keeping the same overall length. this because the 97 "special" seems to be especially "targeted" at the (informal) field target market segment where high end PCP's are not (yet) used. with a quality package as this, no conventional slit screws are acceptable, but this can be remedied by aftermarket hexagonal fittings.
HW seems a bit too generous in other areas, since this rifle diesels profusely for a long time. it takes quite some running-in. this is the reason I prefer not to give my accuracy impressions as final. I fail to see why dry lube substances for the internals could not be used in the factory at final assembly. I'm afraid the cocking handle washer will wear away quickly, very thin and narrow as it is. I will try to fit a heat shrink synthetic cocking aid sometime.
