Splendid setting, Great organisation by staff on the day, A venue and experience which will make everyone comment its the best wedding they've been to. Beautiful food also.
Lack of returning calls and emails but not really a problem (see below). Some of the rooms especially in the new wing have showers within the room and so privacy slightly compromised.
Orchardleigh has taken a bit of a knocking recently from some of the recent reviews mainly due to a lack of returned emails and calls and perceived lack of organisation. I want to set the balance straight as I read some of these reviews before my wedding on 7th July 2006 and they made me a bit nervous whether I had chosen the right venue. I did. Orchardleigh was amazing.
It is true that they don't always get back to you when you write, email or call them (they do about half the time) but they take everything on board you've told them. You just have to trust them - they do at least 4 weddings a week so I suppose confirming every change with every bride would be very difficult. EVERYTHING WILL GO PERFECTLY ON THE DAY, they will ensure it does. You will find the perceived lack of organisation amusing and possibly mildly irritating but not stressful.
They are very professional and will suit the more laid back approach of just letting them get on with it.
We had a band and fireworks in the evening and the evening event organiser liaised between the two perfectly so everything went off down to the last minute. Conversely earlier in the evening when the photos had taken longer than expected and we were running about an hour late for the wedding breakfast we weren't hassled by anyone as to when we would be ready to sit down, we sat down when we felt like it and the starters magically arrived on cue. You'll appreciate the relaxed attitude the place creates when your guests are serving themselves beer behind the bar at 3am! Orchardleigh will bend over backwards for you. (They are one of the few top venues in the country that allows you to provide your own alcohol and although they say you should stop serving your alcohol after the wedding breakfast they are very relaxed about this and our wine continued to be drunk throughout the night)
You really will feel the place is your own for the day and night, no one bothered when the younger members of our wedding party held an impromtu disco on the front lawn late into the evening!
The accommodation is beautiful and your guests will be amazed at their rooms within this fairytale setting. In all honesty they will think you have spent a lot more than you actually have on the venue (I suspect Orchardleigh will soon raise their prices as it is relatively cheap considering it has featured in Hello magazine and seems to be a favourite for celebrity weddings).
I'm sure you've guessed by now I can't recommend Orchardleigh enough. It's hard not to when all 80 guests at you wedding said it was the best wedding they had ever been to! Just look at the pictures and imagine that spectacular house in all your wedding photos!
