Good Points

The Giants Causeway is a beautiful location in which to stay. The Smugglers Inn is located close to the Causeway, and within a reasonable drive of Portrush and Portstewart. We have previously stayed at the Causeway Hotel and been very happy with our stay. Unfortunately the Causeway Hotel was fully booked.

Bad Points

I made the booking over the phone for my husband and two sons to spend two nights on a B&B basis at the Smugglers Inn. I was quoted £40 per night for my husband, and £10 and £15 for the two children aged 13 and 15 respectively. This was subsequently revised to £15 and £20 for the two children when I phoned to confirm our booking on the day, but I thought what the heck! The total cost for two nights should have been £150 maximum. I was therefore not amused when my husband came home and told me that he had been charged £230 for two nights B&B. I have stayed in London for less! I telephoned and spoke to the manager, and I was told that they only book rooms on a 2 adult sharing basis. I had not been told this when I booked the room. She offered me a £40 refund, which I declined, as I consider that they have overcharged us by £100. I intend to take the matter to the Northern Irish Tourist Board.

General Comments

Stay at the Smugglers Inn, which is located close to the Giants Causeway in Ireland, but only if there is really nothing else available. Make sure you get the cost of your booking in writing before you go. The Causeway Hotel would have charged us £75 per night with no single supplement. I phoned to check, and they thought that what we had been charged at the Smugglers Inn was outrageous. Oh yes, and the sea view? Well it's there, my husband says - if you look in the mirror at a funny angle.
