General Comments
Although more expensive than many digital camcorders, the Canon XM1 is well worth the extra money. Not only does it give you all the manual capabilities of a larger more expensive camera, it also gives you the ease of use of a small camcorder. The controls on top of the handle come in extremely handy if you are filming inconspicuously.
All in all the Canon XM1 is a superb camcorder and i would recommend it to anyone, whether they want to use it for professional or amateur purposes.

I agree the Canon XM1 is a very user friendly camera. I have also used a Sony 900. The picture was marginally sharper, but the lens has no where near the zoom range. I have had a problem with my Canon XM1. A noisy high pitched whistle whilst recording. This was quite audible when the camera was switched to record only. Canon via Cecil Jacobs Ltd in leicester replaced it for a new one quite quickly.
