Good Points

When it works the quality is very good.
Straight forward to use.

Bad Points

Not fast enough to do a last minute recording with a new disc, as it needs to prepare the disc first. This can take up to 60 minutes depending on the type of prepare you choose. I've had the recorder for 18 months or so, and in that time I have had to send it back to Lite-On twice for repair. It stopped accepting discs all together on each occasion, and they fitted a new DVD drive in it on both occasions. I'm now on the third DVD drive (the original one it came with, and two new ones fitted by Lite-On) and so far so good, but I'm now not able to trust it to record a favourite program without an error occurring.

General Comments

I upgraded the firmware on my Lite-On LVW-5005 DVD recorder as requested by Lite-On when my recorder stopped accepting discs, and this didn't fix the problem, so if you get the same problem, don't bother trying. Just ring them up and get them to repair it for you. I found that Lite-On have actually extended the 12 months warranty to 24 months, so if your recorder is over 12 months old, it's still under warranty and will be repaired free of charge. They send a delivery firm to pick it up from your home, repair it and return it to you completely free. It takes about a week to carry out a repair.
