Great ambiance. Some tables get a nice view of the Castle, others are lurking in dark corners, as ours was. However, that didn't matter as it seemed intimate and private. There is a good choice of food, especially if you like fish, and at a reasonable range of prices from £8.50 to £15 for a main course.
There is something a bit pretentious about a menu which needs to be explained.
I was really concerned when I looked for an internet menu for The Outsider the night before we were due there for an important 'meet the potential in-laws' meal. We had always had a great time here, but we hadn't been in a year, and it looked as though it had all gone badly wrong. I'm happy to say that was not the case. The ambiance was better than ever. The restaurant was buzzing, and everyone (that's 8 of us) was happy with their meal. The service was OK. The waiting staff were pleasant but had short memories. Some of my favourites (Soupy Stirfrys) were missing from the menu, and they could do with a plain dish for the unadventurous. But yes, we had a great time. We would go back again and we would recommend. If you go, just be on your best behaviour. It's young and fun, but they don't take no messing around.
