Good Points

Accurate, light, great looking with older long stock, trigger.

Bad Points

Not real potent (was not really meant to be though) a little too light in the muzzle if no muzzle weight is added.

General Comments

The Beeman R-7 overall is a great gun. It is important to remember what it is and where it fits in to the Beeman line or air rifles in general. It is meant to be a light, accurate plinker. It is NOT a childs gun, specifically its length of pull (i.e. the measurement from the butt pad to the trigger) it is the same length or extrememly close to that of Beeman's R-1 @14.3 in. It is very light, ( 6.1 lbs.) very short overall (40.2 in.) and very easy to cock (18lbs.) compared to any of my other magnum airguns. My R-7 is of the very early vintage ones (about 1985 or so) with no safety and full length forearm stock that covers the cocking hinge. The power is down by quite a bit (only 544 fps. with Laser pellets, factory rating is 700 fps.) but that is really not a concern for me as I will be using this gun to introduce my son to the sport of air gunning. It is easy enough for him to cock and load by himself at age 10. I mounted a Leapers 6X32mm mini scope on it and removed the front and rear sites. I added a rear site cover plate and a Straight Shooters muzzle weight which stream lined the gun nicely and gave it good balance as well. Shooting at about 10 yards my son who is just learning how to shoot can keep shot after shot in a 1 in. target dot pretty easily from a rest. The recoil is also very low for anyone who has issues with most of the more powerful airguns. I really would not hunt with this gun beyond maybe 15-20 yards and only at very small game and only as long as the spring is fresh or better yet after market. As far as a plinker however I can't imagine it getting much better than this gun. From its accuracy to easy of cocking and light weight you can absolutely shoot this gun all day and absolutely hit what you are aiming at. A great gun.

This review was helpful because I was planning on getting this rifle to introduce my son to air rifles. The reviewer mentioned that his 10 year old son can cock and load the rifle without assistance.
