Advent 7014 Review

Not expensive. High performance.

Manufacturer is DSG (Advent=DSG), the reseller is DSG (PC-World/Dixons/Currys=DSG), supported by DSG (PC ServiceCall=DSG). If any problems occures they are affected on any level. So I am afraid (subjective feeling) they are interested in finding the root of any problem in you. (Where is it written that... It is not designed to... therefore it is not a fault.) It worths to search for cases on the net (search for "DSG Retail").

If you know electronic inductry you know that components (displays, disk drives, chips, ...) are tested and they are distributed to manufacturers according to the test results. Faulty components are (hopefully) not sold. Components with low results sent much cheaper to manufacturers and they are incorporated into cheap procucts. Maybe (it is not sure, at all, just a guess) Advent builds up systems of medium quality components. It results in a bit lower performance (not so bright picture on display) or shorter lifetime.

7014 sold with different made of CDRW-DVD combo drive depending on what is cheaper/on store at the moment of assembling. Actually it is quite normal.

On 7014 heat comes out next to the display, which is easy solution, but maybe not too good for the display. On products of "big brands" the heat let out on the side of the machine.

At the bottom it is written that for on-line support visit the Website of Gericom. As far as I know Gericom does not support Advent products. You can contact hardware/software component maker (SiS, nVidia, Microsoft, ...), or DSG (PC ServiceCall). If you by a product of a "big brand" you get also their support. As Advent=PC ServiceCall it does not work (at lest at this moment).

7014 is not mentioned on the Website of Advent at the moment of writing this review. Very strange.
