Missty's Review of Dave Pelzer, A Child Called It

Bad Points

Personally speaking I would have liked it if the book had gone into more detail of why a person as David's Mother (pure evil, product of her own bad childhood or deeply disturbed) call her what you will come to do such a thing. What lead her to it, would she, could she or has she any regrets. I also didn't really get a jist of exactly what David had to do to get through to the other side.

General Comments

It is truly awful and saddening to read about this man's childhood, but more than anything I hope that people can find inspiration in Dave Pelzer, A Child Called It. No matter how we think we have had a bad childhood or been hard done by there is always someone worse off. Use the book to inspire and say to yourself I'm not done yet, I won't give up. If David can go through that and not be broken let us all keep our heads held high.

Have you read the rest of Dave Pelzers books? I think he has now written 4 in total. If you haven't I would recommend that you do. They do give a bit more insight into why his mother did as she did, and why his father stood by. They may not give you all the answers that you seek, but it does give you more background, and as with a Child Called It, they are very well written. The additional books I have read are 'The Lost Boy', 'A Man Named Dave' and 'The Teenage Years'. Hope this helps.
