Good Points

Lovely breed, although not quite as friendly as I was led to believe.
Burmese have really cool eyes, if a bit freaky looking.
Super silky and soft fur. I've never seen a cat quite like it.

Bad Points

There's nothing bad about a Burmese. I don't find their personality to be quite as described in the books, but there's nothing "bad" about it. Burmese are great cats!

General Comments

The Burmese isn't quite as friendly as I was led to believe by the Cat Fancier Association, but our cat may be an anomaly. She has quite the mind of her own and will gladly come sit on your lap, but only if it's her idea. She does follow us around everywhere, greets us at the door, and is otherwise dog-like, as is often described. Ours resists being a pet for whatever reason, but she has grown on us, despite our initial "super-friendly" expectations.

Our Tonk is actually much more affectionate, but they are closely related breeds.

I had a brown Burmese tom who lived until he was 15, he was very loveable but had a mind of his own! I have heard that the toms (neutured of course!) are a lot more friendly than queens, whether or not this is true I don't really know. My Miffi (pedigree name Sundari Mikla) was exceptional, almost human at times! Would happily jump in the car for a journey, just like a dog. Even had a ride in an articulated lorry cab and loved it! He would follow me everywhere, even to bed and under the sheets! I could rant on for hours about him - he was a terrific cat! Wonder if it is true that queens are not quite as friendly as toms?

Oh what a wonderful breed the Burmese our. I also had a brown Burmese called Cleo who died when she was 15. She was the most adorable cat I have ever owned. She adored cuddles and affection, yet was very spoilt and would sulk with me, if I went on holiday or did something that did not include her, which is fairness was not very often.
She would curl up on my knees for hours, and she adored me as much as I did her. Like Helen said previously, I could go on about my little Cleo for hours. My heart was completely broken when she died, and I could never have another Burmese as I would always be comparing. I currently have an old three legged moggy, Jack, who is equally adorable and as spoilt but a completely different character - Burmese are way out there on their own - not to everyone's tastes but adorable all the same.
