Good Points

Cheap and can be used pretty much out of the box


Bad Points

Unreliability and problems with the firewall


General Comments

I was looking for a cheap router that I could set up a home network with and this Safecom SAMR 4110 seemed to fit the bill, plugged into my network and onto the phone line and voila - 5 PC's with internet access. Unfortunately the firewall is known to be "buggy" this is from the Safecom tech support people, they do provide a fix which isn't difficult to apply. Unfortunately I've encountered problems with it loosing the ADSL connection randomly (re-booting the device normally sorts it out) and more recently it's corrupted it's internal firmware, not once, but twice this month. Not too much of a problem, except the fix requires me to plug the device into a DOS based PC with USB devices. Hang on! DOS died not long after Windows 95 and USB compatability was only introduced with Windows98 SE! I've got DOS boot disks but the utility is too large for a floppy, if I put it on a CD..... anyway, it's a pain. Safecom assure me that there's no way for this to happen yet it blatently has. There are better products available for similar amounts of money
