- Have you made a claim?Yes
Have insured my two cocker spaniels for 5 years with DL. Recently claimed, for the first time ever, for one dog diagnosed with hypothyroidism (lifelong condition) to find that Direct Line will only pay out for 1 year. This is the first time this pathetic level of cover has become apparent and won't even cover the premiums paid to date. Complained to DL, explaining that I have only received insurance schedule & cover letter for last 3 years - no detail regarding changes to policy etc. They say 'tough luck. . . see you in court.'. Yes they will.
General Comments
Be very careful regarding the policy wording for Direct Line Pet Insurance. The cover I have actually got barely covers the premiums I have paid. Nightmare. Previously used Tesco Pet Insurance who were superb. Impossible to deal with DL by telephone, constantly being put on hold for as long as 15 mins each time. Dreadful!

I think you will find that Tesco will also only pay for a condition for 12 months. So you would have been in exactly the same position if you had been with them when you made the claim. If you had been with PetPlan they would have continued to pay for the thyroid condition for the life of the pet.
