Cambrils, Esmeralda Apartments Review

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
The accommodation was clean and safe.
Our transport to and from the airport was on time, and the cost was normal for the taxi.
Our room was on the top floor (fourth) room 402, which was a one bedroom apartment, and we found it had everything we needed.

A little noisy at times, mostly during the daytime.
In the summer air conditioning is not available. However, hire of a fan can be provided.
The kitchen area was small (room for one person only) but adequate. Ours had four gas rings, a fridge, an electric kettle and a sink with hot and cold water.

I read all of the reviews about the Esmeralda Apartments complex in Costa Dorada, and having been there I found that some of them seem a little biased. There was no howling dog or train whistle as it went past at all hours of the night as reported in one review. This accommodation, was for me and my wife, as good as some with a higher rating. Staff very helpful and friendly. Our apartment, although spartan, was clean and everything worked OK. Towels and linen were changed whenever you wanted. The building itself is probably moreish in style, with smallish balcony's, and a nice sized bar and restaurant. The reception is manned 24 hours. The swimming pool is on the small side, but the sea and beach is only fifty or so metres away, and not as packed as the main resort. Entertainment, if you like to frequent the hotel, was good and for all ages. A satellite T.V. for all the English channels is available in the reception area to watch ( for us maybe a T.V. in the rooms would have been nice). There is also an Internet desk with two user VDU's.

Although the apartments are situated between Cambrils and Salou, an excellent local bus service runs to most places, even as far as Barcelona. The trains also run from Salou in both directions, and are within twenty or thirty minutes walk.

If you decide to eat in the hotel, food is good. If not, try Molly Malones, The Mucky Duck, Sky Sports Bar, and if your children like mini golf as us oldies did, usually only for the cheapness of the ale and friendliness of the staff or go carting, they can be found about a five minute walk away.

The new management seems to have done the trick in our opinion.

  We stayed at Esmerelda Apartments back in 2004 I can honestly say the accommodation was appalling, their was a stench of sewage from the bathroom, we were advised to put bleach down the toilet. The Apartments seemed to date from the 1960's. I would not recommend this place to anybody. My daughter who was 15 at the time had to sleep for 2 weeks with her legs hanging out of the bunkbed, the beach was great and local Spanish restaurants were good.
