Good Points

Very reliable, consistent, and accurate.

Bad Points

Stock was too bulky for me and the magazine retainer pin could have been engineered to a much better standard.

General Comments

I have owned my Webley FX 2000 for six years now which says a lot for it, I have owned many rifles in my time and this one I have kept the longest with no intention of ever parting with it. As with anything there will always be something that niggles you, for me it was the size of the stock, it was huge! I visit Australia each year and spend a lot of time hunting with rimfire and centrefire rifles, none of which have stocks as big as the FX.

So after a couple of months I plucked up the courage to get the tools out and reduce the size of the stock, I reckon I must have removed over 50% of the original wood! Lots of sanding and French polishing later I finally had a rifle in my hands that felt right and I've been happy with it ever since apart from the odd bit of touching up. Also I removed the thick recoil pad, (why do rifle manufacturers continue to put these thick rubber lumps onto totally recoilless rifles?) The only other part that bothers me is the magazine release pin, which is just plain cheap! But that will be sorted when I get around to it.

The FX is a great little hunting rifle and shots are very consistent with a nice tight group out to 45 yards with only the occasional flyer which is probably down to a pellet with a ding in it or a gust of wind. Good capacity tank with more than enough shots for a days hunting.

My problem now is that my daughter is enjoying the sport and I'm not getting my hands on the Webley very often, so deciding that it was probably time I bought a new rifle (for me to use). After many months of looking and trying out different rifles and lots of overtime to save up the pennies, I finally purchased a new Ripley XL9 with a price tag of 1600 quid. I've put about 1000 pellets through it so far, yet I'm going hunting this afternoon and I'll be taking the Webley FX 2000! This is a fantastic little rifle for the money if you can cope with the stock. Even my daughter prefers it to any other rifle, she tried most of the other rifles I did and only liked the Webley with the smaller stock. So now I'll be looking for another FX or similar, and I'm probably stuck with the Ripley, another expensive lesson! (Although the Ripley is a very nice gun, after very close inspection, it ain't all it's cracked up to be.) I have not had any problems with the FX in 6 years, not a single jam! And it has had thousands of pellets through it. As with any Rifle keep it clean and look after it.
