What good points.
I was told by First National Bank of Marin that getting this card would help establish credit. NOT! It is still on my credit report to this day and I cannot get it off. They told the Credit Bureaus that it is a debt still owed.
I was contacted by mail from a representation of First National Bank of Marin regarding opening a secured credit card account with them. They kept calling me to see if I wanted to received a credit card and to send the papers back. Each month my payments were on time, since I processed it over the phone, and for that, they not only took the funds immediately out of my checking account, but also charged me an extra $5.00 processing fee to do so. They also charged me an extra $29.00 because of a late charge. I called and asked them to send me their credit card (never got one). So how was I going to use the money to make purchases, etc.? I called the bank and tried to cancel and get a refund. They said that I was not entitled to a refund and I could not cancel. I owed the debt to them, and if I did not pay it they would turn me over to collection, and it would really hurt my credit and credit rating. They were very unhelpful, and they would hang up on me and continually say I could not cancel even in writing.
So I say what debt? It was my money that they had, and they had the opportunity to collect the interest during that time. The bank did not use their own money. So how do they figure that I owed them? The only thing that I received is a bad credit rating, and it is still hurting me to this day. I even tried to dispute it with the credit bureaus, and the bank said that the debt is still owed to them. I have never received my money back. I would like to know who got to use my money. Will I ever get my money returned (close to 800.00)? I do get the benefit of hearing from the collection agencies. So sign me up on the dotted line again - NOT! And they call it a secured credit card! Now when I try to call them and ask why they do not return my money and take it off my credit reports, I just get a busy signal.
