Good Points

The Club Praia da Rocha suited our needs. We had a spacious apartment with one bedroom, a living room, kitchenette, and a bathroom with shower, although there is a bath, only the shower is connected!! Leave it running long enough and you can fill the bath!! The kitchen was very very basic with the crockery etc., but it was adequate. The maid service was 1st class, and very thorough and efficient. The lifts were a bit temperamental, especially on busy arrival/departure days, but there is a choice of 5 lifts.

Bad Points

The worst part was the breakfast. We decided to do B&B. What a mistake!! It is alright if you prefer continental breakfast, but myself, I'm not very partial to scrambled eggs with runner beans and carrots mixed in for breaky!! Also hams and cheeses for breakfast! I'm a typical Brit and love the full English breakfast. We did go to breakfast 3 times out of 14, and they had sugar puffs, cornflakes, muesli, and toast. The rest of the time we went to the 'Duke', which is on the top road on the sea front. They did a fab brekky with English bacon, sausages and black pudding etc. I highly recommend it!!
It was a disappointment that we had to hire a kettle, and we also had to pay a fee for the TV!!

General Comments

Praia da Rocha is a brilliant place with lovely beaches, although this year a lot of work is taking place to put facilities ON the beach, which will be brilliant. Also, the access to the beach is being improved to make it easier.

The best place we found for evening meals was called BARAO RESTAURANT, which is situated around the corner from Fagins fish & chip shop. We tried a lot of places, but came back to the Barao every night during our second week. It is owned by an English lady married to a Portuguese chef. The food is fab, and the prices are good. A two course meal and drinks was approx 20 Euros!! Steak, fish, omelettes, even Sunday roast, and Mushy Peas. If you like curry it is not on the menu, but ask and they will make a fresh curry for you, and it is brilliant.

For a good 1/2 day out try the Pirate replica wooden sailing ship. It is a fantastic trip, well worth the money and very enjoyable.
