General Comments

While the suction technology of this Dyson DC04 is basically sound, it has very little else going for it. The build quality is dreadful - it seems to be made of cheap plastic, so bits constantly fall off. Poor design and ill thought out practicalities cause constant breakages. The hose splits after no time at all. Belts break with alarming regularity and fitting a new one really needs two people. Then you have to re-fit the sole-plate...
The brush is not adjustable and is therefore useless on certain carpets. My cleaner has just packed up all together, which is why I now feel compelled to warn others. This said, Dyson have replaced broken parts out of guarantee fair enough, but when I spoke to them (if you write, you should get a phone call from them so you have the opportunity to get it all off your chest). I got the impression that these problems were all part of a day's work. Design is about thinking; Dyson don't seem to be able to crack this. It's also interesting to note that when you get talking to other people who own a Dyson, you find that you are not alone. Under no circumstances buy one.
