Prepare to lose your life!!! I quit playing World of Warcraft about 2 months ago now after a stint of 6 months which saw me level a 60 warlock and a 43 rogue on a RP-PVP server.

Allow me to give benefit of my experience:

First off, the game is so addictive if you have a job, friends, a girlfriend, kids or a liking of more than 3 minutes sunlight a day YOU WILL SLOWLY LOSE IT ALL!!! It absolutely immersed my every waking minute if I could award higher than 10 addiction level I would!

Now, for your first choice...which realm to play on. Be warned and read my first gripe. There is little to no role play in this game by it's nature it is a grind, nothing more. Even on RP servers (with PVP enabled) you will find little honour at times when kids are off school as the game descends into depths of selfish immaturity, arguing and griefing. Take my advice, if you do not like being picked on, having a game ruined or being annoyed, go to a PVE server. If you want a hardcore experience and wish to see what I mean, go PVP where other players can attack you.

I found (as alliance) that most hardcore gamers went Horde and most role players chose Alliance. On The Venture Co this lead to a massive imbalance in world domination as battlegrounds were pointless except on rare occasion. The lack of battleground action lead Horde to simply act world pvp without thought for Role Playing simply to gain honour points (needed for gaining rank).

It wasn't all bad however, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to level 60, exploring the world, trading in auction houses and making tonnes of gold! However, once you reach 60 there are limited things to do, the end game instances. To play these instances you HAVE to be in a large guild, so you are forced to seek one out and start at the bottom of their guild ladder and DKP. Me and my friends found this a tough move and it was enough to make me leave. I loved our time before this restraint but after it became simply utterly boring...a monotonous grind of little achievement.

Blizzard did a great job in keeping subscribers paying by making the rewards worth getting, but you have to spend hours and hours getting them...committing this time also became tough. If like me, you dont have this time, the game becomes redundant.

I think that the monthly fee is too much for what you get (realm performance was not great, graphics are nothing special, support ingame is long in arriving) and value for money I give only 8/10. It would have been less but for the fact the game really was great fun for several months.

Before I finish, I'll reiterate - I loved this game like no other for a few months. It will dominate your life and strain your relationship, your job and your sleep patterns!! But once the grind sets in you gotta let it go and walk with the realisation you just spent several months of your life for no real purpose or gain. You'll wonder how you ever got into an argument with a ninja hunter who rolled on a rogue item. You'll wonder how you just spent 4 hours wiping on the first two bosses in Zul Gurrub but most of all you'll wonder where the rest of the world went for the time you were playing in a hypnotic state! You've been warned.
