Good Points

Fairly good customer service and usually reliable access

Bad Points

Slower to react since being taken over by Kingston Communications.

General Comments

Like all ISPs Eclipse offer 8M in big letters, up to in small. They are at the mercy of BT who don't say that 8M is really 7.2 observed and that anyway customers to any ISP are unlikely to get near that speed consistently. My speed can go from just over 5Mb/s to under 1Mb/s. It is foolish of ISPs and BT to raise expectations and then be able to meet them.

   Eclipse's performance was forgivable in 2006, but 2007 has been a shambles. The long awaited mail server upgrade (which took a month!) was completely ineffective. Not a day goes by without a "POP3 server unavailable" message on my e-mail client.
   
   We'd an outage that lasted 14 days (due to a BT fault at the Exchange) in Feb 2007. Sure, this wasn't Eclipse's fault, but why did it take Eclipse so long to get BT sorted out? We phoned Eclipse daily for progress reports & progress was painfully slow. Fortunately we'd a direct line to BT OpenReach (one of the perks of being in an IT company) who were able to keep me up to date on the situation.
   
   The outage on 20th Feb 2007 was the killer though. Their service status was updated regularly or accurately. Phone lines were jammed with people looking for info from Eclipse. It took us 2.5 hours (we'd to continually phone back as they cut you off when their busy) to get to speak to tech support about the problem & their ETA for a fix was "hopefully sometime today".
   
   I should point out that the sales people at Eclipse are not caring about their customers at all. Having spoken to one the the female sales people their, they'd rather lose long-term customers rather than give them the same offers available to new customers. Hmmm... let me see "no sales income" or "reduced sales income" - which is better for Eclipse? Following that sales person's attitude, I requested my MAC code there & then.
   
   Good riddance Eclipse!!!
   I look forward to migrating elsewhere asap.
