General Comments

HW97K, .22

This is my second 97K, I liked the .177 so much I bought the .22 as well (I have sold the .177, not because of any reason other than a preference for the knock-down power of the .22 for hunting).

I am extremely happy with the rifle, contrary to the urban legend that the safety cannot be reset, just keep your paw off the trigger and reset via the last inch of cocking lever travel.

Accurate, handsome, industrial strength build quality, eminently tunable (Jim Maccari, www.justwebit.com/members/27761/index.shtml).

In my opinion the best springer I have ever owned (HW90, Gamo CF30, FWM300s....actually that was superb, but paper punching only).

Now alll I want is the new HW100 in hi-power .22

John, when hunting, do you notice the difference between the 177 and 22? Does the 22 make cleaner kills? Is the 22 also accurate enough to shoot pests at 75 meter? Is the less flat trajectory of the 22 a big disadvantage compared to the 177?
Are you glad you switched to 22? For hunting/pest control and plinking, do you recommend 177 or 22? Thanks, Snipy

Snipy, those are great questions. I wonder the same thing. I am making clean kills at 60 yards with a Gamo 440 .177 because of the accuracy. I hate to sacrafice one for the other.

There is a slight difference between 177 and 22,why not get the 97 in 177, you can always use heavier pellets, i do, ive got 22,s but im a convert now, some great 177 pellets on the market that bridge the pellet wingeing gap,if I want hard as 22 hitting/even though 7.9 grains 177 does the job on any pests/// I would use a 16 grain heavy 177 pellet, and it will still shoot straighter than 22,
