mattpaines's Review of Roadcom RC300 Satellite Navigation System

Good Points

Looks good on a dash board, compact. POI system is very good, as is the clarity of road names on the screen.

Bad Points

Menu system over complicated, screen just about bright enough in bright daylight, doesn't go dark enough at night. Routing is questionable, when set to "fastest route" has a habit of routing away from motorways. Battery life 5-6hrs, wouldn't do a full working day. Window mounting bracket is cheap and nasty.

General Comments

The Roadcom RC300 was for our second car. The TomTom was too bulky to fit aesthetically so we bought something that would look better.
Up to now I've had two units, the first failed because the Roadcoms internal charger system failed within a week of purchase. The second unit is now 2 wks old, and the mains charger has failed, having to charge from the car. Not sure if I'll try a third, may just go buy a Tom Tom One.
