Good Points

Image quality. Ease of use. AA battery use. Design and balance.

Bad Points

Flash images. Capture image delay. Uses SmartMedia.

General Comments

Images quite good. Camera well weighted for good stable shots, despite being just a tad bulky. Use of AA batteries considered a plys especially on vacations for emergency power source. I use Ray O Vac one hour charge NiMH batteries (amazing!)The flash images seem washed out and too contrasty. I prefer to turn off the flash and use existing light. The white balance on this camera is excellent. There is always just a short delay between when a focused image is triggered and when the shot actually occurs, as with every digital camera I have tried. This can be frustrating especially when shooting action shots like my children.
This camera uses SmartMedia which I have not been able to find in greater than 128 MB (compared to other media formats)

The camera also accepts xD cards apart from SM. A remark I have for this camera: it seems to shoot less colorful images than the Olympus C50. When using the camera in bright wheather conditions in multi-spot metering, it completely blocks.

Apart from those drawbacks: very good camera for its price, many functions, great quality.

This camera ALSO accepts compactflash - You can have different media in the camera at the same time and switch between cards at any time!!

With respect. I think you need to go read the instructions - the 5050 is one of the most flexible cameras on the market with regard memory card choice. Throw away the aging SM card, and pop in a nice high capacity CF card.
