I, like many others, had the Zanussi TCE7276W dryer break down just outside of warranty, with the same broken button problem others have described here. I fixed mine myself, replacing the broken plastic with a solid plastic bar (actually a plastic screw mount) - which by the look of the design should have been what Zanussi used.

The plastic looks like it was designed to break over time, as the thin transparent plastic is less than a millimeter thick where it did eventually break. The plastic mount is removable, and would take an engineer less than 5 minutes to replace from stock - and being only plastic in one single piece (like an airfix model part, and similar plastic too) would be very cheap to manufacture.

Maybe I'm cynical, but with the number of these breaking, and after seeing the design, I suspect Zanussi of doing this on purpose. The warranty is only a year, and there is a lot of money to be made from those expesive "extended warranties", which we have been both mailed about by Zanussi directly, and nagged by the sales person at point of sale to join.

I will not be buying Zanussi again. This is just unacceptable, even criminal. Its fine for me, being a handyman, but imagine those families without someone like me available to make the repair. It's either 135 quid to repair, or 200 or more for a new dryer. Disgusting.
