Good Points

Build quality. Originality, performance, sound, the whole package! Has aged well- can you say the same for cars in the same class then/now?

Bad Points

Haven't really got anything bad to say about the car, I think that unmodifed are a bit to understated but it's down to taste. A nice set of wheels and getting it lowered will sort it out and that's all you need in my opinion. Can't complain about the fuel consumption because if you don't want big fuel costs don't buy a performance car. I get between 28 and 35 mpg. The car does suffer from torque steer particualy if you plant your foot while going round eg a long sweeping bend you have to be on your toes! The insurance wasn't bad as expected I'm 23 and pay just over £400 fully comp that's with a clean license and max no claims.

General Comments

The Volkswagen Golf VR6 I bought my brother owned from new so I watched him chuck money at it for almost 9 years before he bought a next to new M3. I'd always loved the car so took his hand off when it came up. Twin headlamp conversion, BBS 17's, full s/s exhaust, air filter and VW body kit. I've read that get an up rated ECU increases power to 215bhp whether or not this is actually true or I don't think it can be but it feels like it! I haven't driven a standard VR6 but know people who've had them and been in this one and commented it's a different car. The s/s exhaust makes the best out of the six cylinders and sounds fantastic. The car is well behaved lower down the rev range and quite lazy but get to 3000rpm and it lights up. The car comes into it's own at higher speeds with loads of pull and acceleration at 80 mph plus. As for it being out paced by newer 'hot hatches' I'd have to strongly disagree having driven Civic type R's and other newer breed hot hatches this is more fun at a quarter the cost. The VR6 was designed to be a cruiser and on your average road the VR6 is hard to beat. Buy one and you'll be converted. Don't know whether to start spending money on this or save for a R32.
