MelvinB's review of American Express Platinum

★★☆☆☆

“This card in my opinion needs more exclusivity when it...”

Good Points
Some respect! Airport lounge

Bad Points
Not enough to leave my Visa Signature for it. No fine dining places in enough areas of the USA, examples Norfolk/Virginia Beach,VA.

General Comments
This card in my opinion needs more exclusivity when it comes to extras. My Visa Signature has the same discounts as this card and is excepted in more places than the Amex Platinum. Whats good is the prestige of the card. The card still gets respect in some cases and the number of people who get the Platinum charge card percentage wise is still pretty slim so only those with great credit get it. Also the number of people who get the black card are very small also so having the Platinum Amex isn't a bad thing. I wish the gave out permanent lines so you know your limit with it like my Visa Signature. The Signature is no preset spending limit but you get a line you can go to and if you go over you pay down to that and arent penalized for going over as long as you pay it to your limit when your bill arrices. Example is say your line on your Signature card is $35,000, you pay $40,000 for a IS350 and when the bill comes your $5,000 over the limit or line you have. Pay down to $35,000 (at least $5001) and your straight. The Amex Platinum you can go from $15,000 per charge to $30,000 a charge than back down to $20,000. Its more relaxing to have a set number and make purchases around that. Also they send my bill sometimes 6-8 days before its due. I hate that and there arent enough benefits to warrant $395 a year. American Express Platinum is like Mercedes Benz, HYPE from the past of what it used to be and falling in my eyes from before I had it. I got my Visa Signature after and its better with no fee because I'm with Bank of America who issued me my Bank of America Visa Signature. Imagine charging people to use your credit card, and if you do why so much for benefits that only benefit American Express. All Amex cards need to decrease there fees, the Visa Signature card hasn't got to the masses yet but the advertising is going up on it so Amex should watch it. All it takes is one hot rapper with a Visa Signature to mention it and GAME ON AMEX PLATINUM.
