★★★★☆
Sharp GX10

“id wait for the NEC 3g phones if you are thinking of...”

Written on: 31/03/2003 by RC. (1 review written)

Good Points
built in camera
65k colour screen is good and reasonably large
fairly lightweight
supplied games are ok, add ons are good but pricey

Bad Points
no reminder function
user interface could be improved
photos are only low res, pic. quality still doesnt match a £40 keyring camera
not as slim and nicely designed as samsung t100
no voice recog
poly ringtones are very poor
vodafone live costs a fortune
battery only lasts 2-3 days
new games will cost you £5 a shot!!
no USB PC link

General Comments
id wait for the NEC 3g phones if you are thinking of getting one of these

one of the few cameras with a built in non attachemnt camera, but these will be common in a few months time. not the most stylish , slimlne and feature rich phone availanble, not that easy to use either compared to sony, nokia and samsung

this review is very bad. it says how the samsung is slimmer and better designed but it does not have a camera so it would be slimmer. the samsung also has a poorer screen display so i'm not too sure what you are going on about! if you are going to write a review make sure you know what you are going on about!

I think the vodaphone Gx50 is fab, what more can you ask for!!!!!! I think it's total rubbish saying that it isn't sexy and stylish because it has a camera built in it and the camera is very good technology to be able to fit into a mobile. I want a GX50 cos my friend has got 1 and they are brilliant phones and people moanin about the quality of pics should be grateful they have a phone with a camera in it! Does any one want to give me advise which camera phone to choose and please don't say the most stylish

i agree with RC on this, this phone could do with being slimmer and sexier + they must have good memories at sharp as there arent proper reminders on it

Listen to me Mark, I've owned and tested both these and many other phones so I know what Im talking about. the T100 is way more stylish but needs a camera. Samsung are releasing a new 65k col camera phone with rotating lens which is slimmer than the chunky GX10. Even the poorer Panasonic GD87 is slimmer. just because a mobile has a built in camera doesnt mean it HAS to be chunky. The screens on all three are of equal vibrancy and good quality with either 4096 or 65k colour and similar sizes. Photos with this phone are still poor compared to the low priced sony A300 - even that can manage VGA resolution which is what you will get on a cheap keyring camera now.

My advice to anyone looking for a 2.5G flip camera phone would be to test the GX10 for yourself against the GD87, the new Samsung or better still NEC 606 if you want to move up to 3G early.

If you can't wait then as I said the GX10 isnt a bad phone, just could be better - namely slimmer, more ergonomically designed , better battery , better UI, voice recognition and have proper reminders like every other phone.

Personally I'm gonna dump it and try the NEC606e
