I rented a car from Budget car rental at Charles de Gaulle Airport in December 2005. There was nothing wrong with the car, which I returned in the same unmarked condition. One of Budget's staff members refused to inspect it! Imagine my delight when they helped themselves to £306 from my bank account 10 days later!
My enquiry met with the response that I'd returned the car with a damaged bumper (first I'd heard of it), but they'd no idea of the details. Eventually I got an apology (via Budget UK - the French wouldn't even give me the courtesy of a reply) and a refund, blaming an "error". I think I've a pretty good idea what kind of "error" was involved. I'm still in dispute with Budget over compensation, as they seem to think that 50 Euros of their measly vouchers will suffice.
