There were certainly the 'edge of your seat' moments that were promised, and the characters were believable and relatable.
The film in general did not have a very original flair running through and the constant barrage of dream sequences made this film confusing throughout and the plot difficult to grasp in parts.
The supernatural element of An American Haunting was somewhat hampered by the camera-work and speed of technique, despite the promising locations, eery soundtrack and set. The script was at times dull, and predictable but James D'Arcy and Rachel Hurd-Wood made a commendable effort with what they were given. Spoiler alert: The daughter's abuse integrated into the plot also contributed to the lack of focal clarity throughout. The film lacked substance which is probably evident in the short length.
