General Comments

I recieved my Remington Genesis about a month ago. Upon unwrapping the rifle I noticed that this was a very nice piece for the price I paid. As well as recieving a Scoped Rifle case, Adjustable Objective Mil-Dot Scope & One Piece Scope Mount with integrated stop all for $209 shipped from Pyramid Air.

I first shot the rifle at 10m with open sights. After the first shot I noticed that this rifle was quite loud & has an excessive spring Twang. But none the less, it's a pretty accurate 10m rifle. After 2 tins of of 500 pellets, she calmed down a bit & I mounted the scope.
The Scope Zero wasn't very far off from where it needed to be at 20 meters. After 15 or so minutes of adjustments, she struck true at 20-25 meters with a 1/2 inch grouping.

Time to go FARTHER I SAY!!! The rifle has decent accuracy up to about 45 meters or so with No Wind. So far I've taken a few squirrel, crow and sparrows from a minimum of 25 meters with this rifle. It just takes a LONG TIME to break it in. In fact I think I'm still getting a hint of dieseling every now & then.

My advice is to buy a few tins of cheap pellets & plink away every day for an hour or so until you have about 1000 or more rounds through it. After that, it should calm down and shots should become consistent.

Overall I think this is a VERY good rifle for the price. The ONLY thing that sets this rifle back is the trigger. Mine feels a bit gritty and has a pretty hefty pull in the second stage. But other than these items, SHES GREAT!

    is the rear sight plastic?

  2. SDale Rank: Corporal on 30th Jul 2006

    Well, I've had the rifle for a few months now and have made some modifications. It's better than ever now!

    To answer the question in one of the comments...YES the front & rear sights are plastic as well as the trigger & guard.

    Since my review I have tuned the trigger, barrel lock-up & disassembled the power plant & relubed it. I'll go into detail below!

    Starting with the trigger: I removed the trigger group & added a 4-40 screw to trigger blade to adjust the first stage length. I also disassembled the trigger group & Polished EVERY SINGLE PIECE & SURFACE that I could. I made sure to keep all right angles nice & sharp. All this took about an hour and yielded AMAZING results! The trigger is now silky smooth, let-off is nice and crisp with just the slightest amount of creep. In addition, I also replaced the Sier Spring with a lighter one found at home depot. The trigger pull is sliiiiightly under 1 pound.

    Barrel Lock-Up: I removed the barrel group & polished the Pivot Pin/Screw. I also removed the plastic bushings on the barrel in order to remove the pivot pin bushing. Once the pivot pin bushing is removed, the Barrel Lock can be removed. Once out, I polished all to surfaces subjected to friction as well as removing a VERY SMALL amount of material at the rear of the Lock where the pivot pin bushing stops it from comming out. During reassembly, I dropped 2 4-40 washers into the recess before replacing the spring. also used a good quality Moly grease to lube everything up. Lock-Up is Nice & Tight now with no barrel droop.

    For side to side play, I used 2 pieces of ordinary plastic found in product blister packs cut to the same diameter as the factory bushings for the barrel. I placed the Shims underneath the Factory bushings & reinstalled the barrel. Lubed the pivot pin with Moly & used Locktite Blue on the threads. No side play yet and over 2000 rounds have been put through it since then.

    Now for the MAJOR life changing Modification...The POWER PLANT: While I had everything else off the rifle, I disassembled the power plant using a Home Made spring compressor. Used Paint thinner to clean EVERYTHING. Removed every single bit of lube on every part. I filled the rear spring guide with Locktite Black Silicone Gasket Sealant, polished the ends of the mainspring, polished the Front Spring Guide (Top Hat), Polished the Piston & made sure to Square off the area where the Sier Engauges. While polishing I deburred EVERY SHARP Stamped edge I could find. Reassembled using the stock seal as it was in very good condition. Used Jim Maccari Heavy Spring Tar on the spring and 2 drops of RWS Chamber lube in the compression chamber.

    After I completed all this, the Rifle is a COMPLETELY Different Animal!!! Recoil is less harsh, trigger feel is VERY nice, accuracy has gotten markedly better! I'm shooting dime sized 5 shot groups at 50+ yards! And MOST of all....90% of the Mechanical noise in the rifle is GONE!!! I'v Chronoed the rifle and the FPS have dropped slightly, but with the way the rifle now handles...It's a good Trade-off.

    Chrony Results with Crosman Premier Super Match Wadcutters:
    Before Tune: 993 +/- 6 FPS (20 Shots)
    After Tune: 962 +/- 2 FPS (20 Shots)

    Hi SDal;
    Found your review interesting and well written with a good explanation of how to tune your own springer. Your shooting dime groups at over 150' (5 shots inside a dime circle) is truly exceptional. You obviously are in a class of one in your shooting abilities. I've been shooting air rifles of all kinds for nearly 40 years. No one I've ever seen has ever shot 5 shots in a dime size group at over 150' even using match and sized pellets and very high quality German air rifles. Me I'm just a average Joe and using any springer in my collection tuned or otherwise would be an embarrassment shooting along side a marksman like your self.
    Is it possible you ment 50+'? Now that would be some good shooting but if you got lucky and had no flyers or wind gusts and you got a outstanding example of the "Genesis" I might could conceive of this happening. What say you?

    dang, you did a lot to this thing, it sounds like it made a difference though. I have been airsofting for 6 years but the Genesis 1000X is going to be my first air rifle, so i'm afraid that if i take it apart i will break it and void the warrenty. do you know if such a place exists where i could have this done for me?

    dang, it sounds like you did a lot to this gun, but with noticable difference. I have been airsofting for 6 years, but the Genesis 1000X is going to be my first airgun, and i'm afraid if i take it apart i will mess it up and void the warrenty, do you know if such a place exists where i could get such a task done FOR me?

    WOW you did a lot to this gun, but noticable benefits. The genesis 1000 X is going to be my first airgun, and i am afraid if i open it up like you did, i will damage it and void the warrenty. Does such a place exist where i could have something like this done FOR me?

    There are a few guys out there than can tune a springer very wel. Two notable ones that come to mind are Charlie Da Tuna and Gene Sunday. Both of these guys can be found (along with a wealth of airgun info) at www.gatewaytoairguns.com

    Thanks, I heard that the recoil in break-barrel guns makes them less accurate than other air guns, and also that because you move the barrel every time you load it, it does not always go straight. Is this true?

  10. SDale Rank: Corporal on 16th Apr 2008

    No, springers are just as accurate as any other airgun. some even more so. They just require a different technique.

    Springers have 2 different recoil phases. The initial recoil is rearward. This is when the piston is released and begins to move forward. The second phase is a forward recoil, when the piston stops at the front of the compression chamber. Because of this back/forward recoil characteristic, Consistancy and Follow Through are the key to good accuracy. Practice makes perfect!

    As far as barrel movement....That statment isn't entirely true. Most springer barrels return to their Locked positions nearly every time. That is unless you have a worn out breach seal or a tired lock-up spring. Now side to side play is a major factor. But as long as you periodically check the pivot bolt to make sure it's tight. You should be OK. But if you're worried about barrel play, then a side lever or under lever gun with a fixed barrel might be more to your liking.

    Drop me an message sometime if you want to discuss airguns a little more in depth!

    For What It's Worth;
    My experience with Crosman springers has shown that (assuming you get a good one) barrel lock-up and more so side
    movement is a problem. The China guns are by far the worst in
    this regards. I found, after visiting "Lowe's" a couple of times I was able to match up the plastic side washers with a brass
    washer whith a slighty larger OD and thickness and width but the exact ID. A little work produced a proper fit. Some Molly grease and some "Red" Lock-Tight produce a first class barrel to power plant relation ship that rivals a good German air gun.
