*Fry's Orange Cream*
Wandering aimlessly round my local Woolworth's store this morning and perusing down the chocolate isle, I come across something that I had not seen for quite a while and decided to treat myself and buy it along with a lot of other stuff that I didn't really need. The Fry's Chocolate Orange bar was a great purchase and one that I will be making again I am sure.
On the wrapper of this delightful chocolate bar it states that Fry's is actually owned by Cadbury's. Which is something I had not realised before. On the Cadbury website it says that the Fry's Chocolate Cream Bar is one of the oldest selling Chocolate bar in the world and was launched way back in 1914.
Fry's Orange Cream Chocolate bar caught my eye because of its bright orange wrapper and tempting picture of the contents! I remembered this from years ago but hardly ever see it anywhere apart from in Woolworth's. It did cost a little more than all the other bars that were on offer but it actually looked a little larger and classier!
The 50-gram bar set me back 48 pence, which is a fair price for a bar of this quality. It is described on the outer packing as "A Dark Chocolate bar with a soft fondant centre". This is really prefect for me as I am one of those people that pick out all the strawberry/orange creams from the Roses tins at Christmas. The fact that most people steer clear of these is even better for me meaning more for me to tuck away!
The bar itself is about 15 centimetres in length and the outer layer of chocolate is proper Dark chocolate. On giving the bar a good whiff, I can really smell the coco that makes up the chocolate and a hint of the orange that is held within. Written on the bar is the "Fry's" logo and it does look like a rather classy chocolate bar.
On taking my first bite I am instantly hit with the strong orange cream mixed with the hard coco taste from the Dark Chocolate. The orange Cream that is held inside tastes just as the cream that is in the orange creams in the tin of Cadbury Roses.
The cream is a dark orange colour and thick in texture. The mix of dark chocolate and orange works so well that I don't think this bar would have the same taste or appeal if it were made from milk chocolate.
The whole bar takes quite a while to finish off. It is rather large and because of the thick cream it sits quite heavily on the ever-increasing stomach.
I am left with a nice orange taste in my mouth. The orange is not a too over powering taste like some orange creams it gives off the right strength of orange flavour. Some creams are very sugary and sweet but this cream is not too sweet or sickly and eating the whole bar did not make me fell in the least bit sick.
Eating the whole bar means you are taking in 210 Calories, 6.9 grams of Fat, 36.2 grams of Carbohydrate and 1.4 grams of Protein. The fat content is not that bad considering other chocolate bars. It does state that it may contain traces of nut and milk. It also states that the chocolate bar contains vegetable fats in addition to coca butter.
I would say this chocolate bar is really in a league of its own. There is nothing else that I am aware of, out on the market that is at all like this. I cannot compare it to something similar but all I can say it that for me this bar really stands out head and shoulders beyond the rest. Does it count as one of my five a day?
The taste of the whole bar is superb. The two different flavours of the fruity filling mixed with the pure coca taste work so well together and seem to complement each other immensely.
I would rate this chocolate bar a fantastic 10/10, as it for me is surely the top of the Chocs!
If you like you Chocolate Creams then this is certainly the bar for you.
I hope this has been of some help. Thanks for reading x x x x x x x

on 14th Apr 2006A fantastic review. Well done! I am somewhat disappointed however to read that this bar may now inter alia contain traces of milk. This bar was the only quality U.K. vegan chocolate bar which I regularly used to buy up until around six months ago. What I have always found strange is that Russia produces many brands of milk free chocolate which are far more 'milky' and tasty than anything available within the U.K. I respectfully suggest that our home chololate bar producers need to go to Russia and study their chocolate production techniques and bring them back here as we too deserve world class chocolate!

I can only think of 2 bad points, 1; they don't last long enough (for me anyway), 2; they're not so good for hunting with (they'd make a terrible mess in the barrell !!!). Other than that, they ARE a mighty fine & tasty bar !!!!!!!!!!

An exquisite taste of a low price Orange Cream filled dark chocolate section bar, it has that ultimate unusual taste of melting Chocolate with Orange having the crispness of quality in a bar.
