General Comments

I have never felt moved before to write to a review centre, but Sheila's Wheels car insurance made me do it!

First of all, my husband managed to get a cheaper quote off the website, using the same details, car, both clean licences, same drivers, than I did. Cheaper for women!?

When I finally found the quote on their easy to use website, and bought it, it came through the post at the wrong price. I ended up in an Indian call centre trying to sort it out. I have a Geordie accent, and was 30 minutes plus on the phone, put on hold, and finally cut off! I rang back 5 times in total, before finally speaking to someone, then gave all my details again. 9 days later, another policy turned up, and they had insured me again, even though I told them I was trying to sort out the original policy.

Before I bought the product, I would have liked to know it was owned by Esure. They admit it's the same call centre, and even tell you to call Esure, or (strangely enough) Sainsburys for a quote if they don't get the business.

Save your money online and go to a site that uses lots of other insurance companies. In the end Hastings undercut the final (3rd difference) price by 81.34, so I took my business there. Now I am just trying to sort out my proof of no claims, and get my two refunds back.

One good thing, if you complain, you end up in Scotland, but if it's an account problem you end up in India again!

Esure, Sainsbury's, First Alternative, FA Women, Halifax and Sheila's Wheels are all the same entity. The staff get a beep and "brand whisper" before they answer! Call centres are based in Manchester and Glasgow, as well as Bangalore, despite HBOS claiming they only have UK call centres.

I was going to get a quote from Sheilas Wheels but having read RedBulls experience I don't think I'll bother. A couple of years ago I was insured with Sainsburys (underwritten by Esure). In the event of a claim I made, which involved a new rear bumper having to be fitted, I got my car back with no rear lights working, which I didn't realise until several days after the return of the vehicle as I hadn't driven it at night. It was another driver that pointed out to be that I had no rear lights late one night. When I rang the repair centre, they sent someone out and fixed it there and then on my driveway, then had the cheek to send me a bill for £67! I wrote to Sainsburys asking why I'd been billed as surely in the event of the repair being as a result of a rear end shunt, surely the repair centre should have checked all the rear lights were working before they returned my car to me? Sainsburys agreed and the £67 bill was cancelled. Not a good experience.
