poontang.'s review of Peugeot 106 1.4 XSi

★★★★★

“this car is great fun, you've got 100 bhp in a car...”

Good Points
mine goes 0-60 in 9.0 seconds, which is good for a 1.4 8v engine, handling is really good, and they look nice standard

Bad Points
if you get a bad one, you can get a lot of problems as they are old cars, and the parts are hard to get a hold of

General Comments
this car is great fun, you've got 100 bhp in a car that weighs 850 kg, this means it is very nippy for what it is, very responsive steering, i have beat vtr's and ax-gt's on countless occassions. although you can't get near gti's you can surprise cars with bigger enginesoff the line, like a bmw 318, and also often embarrass big cars around bends. my xsi had 115,000 miles when i got it, and don't get me wrong thats a lot, but i have had it for 4,000 miles now and no major problems, if you do get one with a lot of miles i recommend oil changes at least every 5k, and its better to get one with a reconditioned gear box as they are a major fault, and also don't take the handling for granted as i spun mine once around a roundabout going 70 mph

If you reckon you've been stuffing AX GTs mate then they probably didnt notice you wanted a race. Don't get me wrong, I like the XSi, I'm even looking to buy one, but there's no way your standard 106 would take my AX, i've raced dozens of them and with the same result every time, they got a nice look at me blacked out rear lights! Saxo VTR's however, easy target, they put up much less of a fight than you 106 boys (probably because mummy would kill them if they got too many stone chips on her paintwork...) so I can easily believe you could have one of them.

The xsi is nice (was my first car) but my mates AX GT used to stuff it up to 60 and his GT was older and had done loads of miles!
VTR'S would stuff it after 80!
Still it was nippy just had its's limits

The Citroen AX GT is the fastest normally aspirated 1400cc hatchback ever produced and is unlikely to see the backend of the XSi at the lights.
