Henry Strong.'s Review of KEF Cresta 3 Stereo Speakers

Overall Rating

Good Points

Great imaging/soundstage.
Goodish bass - reasonable.
bi-wireable

Bad Points

A bit 'honky' in the midrange.
Can get REALLY boomy anywhere near a wall - I mean ANYWHERE near a wall, ok?!

General Comments

I run these with a NAD306 which is perhaps a bit 'lively' for these speakers. Bi-wiring works well with these but the treble can get tiresome. I went out a bought a NAD C541i which got rid of some of the glassiness and improved the bottom end timing but these speakers may sound better with a more genteel amplifier?

Hmmm...I got a set of these from Richer Sounds running thru a technics amp and i can't get satifaction on bass response even against the wall...if i crank the bass up on the amp i get the old 'pocking' effect...back to the drawing board....

I'm running the Kef Cresta 3 speakers from my Technics A-class amp, and the bass is immense! Make sure you have a bit of space between the speaker and the wall, as they like to breathe. Mine are about a foot away.

Sounds like something's not right with your setup or amp.
