General Comments

Having suffered from hay fever for over fifty years, and having moved homes a lot, various G.P's. have prescribed me more hay fever medicines than I care to remember. My hayfever still remains at a 'chronic' level but is not as severe as when I was a child. Whilst I have always just about managed to carry on with my life when my nose etc. has been severely congested, and my head has felt like it was crammed full of cotton wool, what I could never cope with was my eyes becoming so inflamed that my sight was severely prejudiced. Particularly after I started to drive.

Certainly in the 1960's (and possibly in the 1950's) I started to use 'Betnesol' drops for my eyes. They can also be used for ear and nose. My late father, also a severe hayfever sufferer, used to refer to them as his 'magic drops' as they relieved his eyes within seconds. They worked just as well on me. However, every G.P. I have ever used has tried to push some alternative medicine onto me and the result has always been the same - better to use simple cold and wet teabags! (They are partially effective).

My new G.P. went through the same routine of trying to persuade me to try something else and so I pressed him to say whether or not this product was still available, and if it was then why was he being so reticent. He admitted that Betnesol was still available but he did not stock it as it was dangerous if you had a certain eye condition. Apparently it allegedly had the capacity to make anyone with that condition blind if they used it.

After I assured him that I had recently had a clear eye test; was of sound mind; and was willing to accept the risk he agreed to order in some Betnesol for me. He has done so every year since then and I have had no problems, only massive benefits from the drops.

I can therefore wholeheartedly recommend these drops but strictly subject to a full optician's check up and a chat with your G.P. first. They must however never been passed on to a friend or left lying around. I have never tried them up my nose. Why? A totally daft reason really - I have always looked on them as being far more precious than diamonds to me and did not wish to 'waste' copious amounts up my nose!

Betnesol is made by Celltech Pharmaceuticals Ltd. of Slough SL1 1WE.

If anyone has had success at eradicating hayfever via an allergy clinic I would be very pleased to read a full report. Thank you.
