General Comments

B&W DM602 S3 - For the money ($540) these are by far the best sounding speakers I have heard. My setup is a Rotel rx-1072 receiver ($850), and Marantz 5001 CD player ($300). Monster bi-wire speaker cables ($150), and Monster interconnects ($80).

I listen to mostly classical music, vocals, jazz and guitar, and some pop music. Since the frequency response drops off quite a bit under 50Hz, if you listen to a lot of club dance music or something requiring heavy bass, or if this is in a home theater setup, you might want to get a sub-woofer. However, the bass was more than sufficient for my uses. Yo-Yo Ma's Cello can give me the goose bumps when he hits those low notes!

I have compared these with several other speakers, including the B&W diamond series 805s ($2300) - which were fantastic , tighter and have an improved imaging and naturalness. But even side by side, I'd say the 602 S3 performed very nicely. Can't go wrong with this price.

You'll need a good receiver or amp to drive the speakers. I tried to use an Integra receiver, and the sound was noticibly muffled, and lacked clarity. The speaker cables will also make a difference. Other than that, I don't see how anyone can be unhappy with these.
