Good Points

Fine picture quality, sharp, easy to download to PC, great colour, superb nightshots, very good control of expose and aperture, excellent battery charge life, works well in cold Canadian winters, very good value for the money. Truly a great camera.

Bad Points

Does not come with filter adapter and DEFINITELY should. Sony Canada is useless in finding things for you. External flash capability. LCD viewing screen difficult to see in sunlight (like all LCD screens). The only underwater housing I could find is $995. Memory sticks too expensive AND Sony needs to make a memory stick with more memory at a reasonable price.

General Comments

This is truly a great camera! I have competed in photo contests in Japan, Napa Valley, Canada and other places with a professional medium format film camera, and I like this DSC-S70. I have had it for over 2 years. It has lots of buttons and switches all over it but it was pretty easy to get fancy with it. For point and shoot it's child's play and gives very sharp and well-exposed images. The special effects such as solarising etc are toys but that's true for all other brands. If you really want to dress 'em up, photo software is more practical. Zooming in on your saved images is very impressive ... you can pull amazing detail out without a great loss of sharpness. I'm decidely unhappy with Sony Canada though. Anyone I have talked to there knew little if anything about the product or accessories and were absolutely uninterested in trying to be helpful. It was a U.S. retailer that told me about the lens filter adapter and supplied it. I still haven't found an underwater housing for the camera except for one at $995.00 which is more than the camera. Considering that I can get an underwater housing for my point and shoot for 45 bucks, $995 seems like alot. But most people are not interested in underwater photography so this may not be a problem. Overall, an excellent camera and an excellent value.
