General Comments

I bought my Eureka Whirlwind Litespeed 5740 vacuum cleaner in December 2004. For the first few months it worked like a dream. After 3 months I had problems with belts breaking easily. I followed all the check lists in the manual, ensured that nothing was causing the roller to stop turning, trapping the belt, blocking the pipes etc So I telephone customer services to see if they could suggest anything. They told me that the brush roller needs replacing and this is not covered by any guarantee - even if it breaks after 1 week of use!

My parents have the same model Electrolux so instead of buying a new roller for £25, I used their roller. But again the belt snapped after 3 uses. Customer services refuse to acknowledge that there is a problem with the vacuum and insist that it is the belt or roller - which I have proved it is not.

Overall, although the suction is great and a lot of dirt is picked up, I will not recommend this vacuum due to the fact that the belt keeps breaking for some unknown reason and customer services will not do anything. It is very uneconomical for me to carry on using it as I have already spent £25 on replacement belts for a vacuum that cost £65.

I am very very disappointed because my previous vacuum was an Electrolux and I also recommended the vacuum to my parents and brother - they too have problems with the belt breaking but not as frequent as me.

Some more info on using this vacuum: The cyclinder is easy to empty. The filter does tend to get clogged up a lot and the best way to clean it is to give it a wash as it is machine washable. It does have powerful suction and pretty much pulls itself along the carpet. However it is a bit heavy to lift up the stairs when you want to hoover the next level up. The hose does stretch is quite long so stair cleaning is relatively easy. The vacuum also comes with 2 attachments - an upholstery brush which I find does not do a great deal and a long noozle which is fantastic in small corners. The vacuum can also lie flat so it is easy to push under the bed.
