Can't find any for this money.
General Comments
This is a no brainer. This lens will come in handy in situations where light is not available. This lens captures great detail at good contrast.
When looking at my pictures of rock drawings in Norway, it was quite clear what photo's had been made with the 50/1.8 AFD, what photo's had been made with the Nikkor 18-35 and what photo's with the standard 28-80 kit lens. As a matter of fact, the kit lens photo's were (in comparison) so disappointing, that me and my gf will trade it in for a quality standard zoom, like the sigma of Tamron 24-135

Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D AF Lens Sample Photos and Specifications
The 85/1.4 is great, but the 50/1.8 is sharper and more contrasty at 1.8. Plus, you will not find a better F-mount lens for even three times the amount of money. ... Nikon quality, very sharp and very fast.

Subjective evaluations
Nikon AIS 50 mm f/1.8 E ... Bokeh is very nice, much better than the previous AF/AFD version. I tested it at infinity vs my AIS 105/1.8. The apertures I tested were in the f/2.8-f/11 range.
