General Comments

I bought the LiteOn LVW-5006 DVD recorder from Amazon for £79.99 (inc delivery)!

Visually, first impressions were it's a good looking unit, and a nicely laid out remote. I then integrated it into my TV system and powered it up. The unit is a joy to use, and it is so easy to make it do what you want. I bought it primarily for archiving stuff from my PVR and digital camcorder.

After thoroughly putting the unit through it's paces to see if it does what it says it can, I am very impressed.

Archiving via the Guider or manually is simplicity itself, and the results are superb. I recorded my camcorders 1 hour DV tapes via the DV-In to DVD at the highest quality with great results. It even took control of my camcorder functions! For archiving from the PVR I tested it at several quality settings and found even the 4 hour setting to be acceptable. The six hour quality is watchable, though just not really desirable. One feature I really like is the thumbnail menu system installed onto each DVD you record.

Overall, so far I'm very very impressed with this unit for the price. Finally, the multi-region hack is easy to do and works great.
